Salisbury Steak
Equipment
- 1 medium-large sized skillet
- 1 medium-large sized bowl
- 1 small dish
Ingredients
- 2 lbs Ground meat
- Breadcrumbs
- 2 Eggs
- Granulated garlic
- Minced garlic
- ½ cup Diced onions
- 1 Onion Thinly sliced
- 2 cups Fresh mushrooms
- Brown gravy mix
- 1 cup Water
- Worcestershire sauce
- Salt
- Pepper
- Olive oil
Instructions
- In a medium-large sized bowl add in ground meat, breadcrumbs, 2 eggs, granulated garlic (and/or minced garlic), diced onions, salt, pepper and Worcestershire sauce. Using your hands mix everything.
- Place a medium-large sized skillet to the stove-top, turn on medium heat and drizzle some olive oil on it.
- While the pan is heating up, begin forming your meat patties and add them into the pan. Don't overcrowd the pan, because the meat patties won't cook properly. You could probably fit between 4-5 in the pan depending on the size.
- Place the lid on the pan and cook for around 8-10 minutes, flip and cook another 8-10 minutes on the other side. *Cooking times may vary, every stove and pan is different*
- Once done, place them in on a plate and cover with tin foil until ready to eat. Continue cooking the rest.
- After all the meat patties are cooked, using the same pan (don't clean it) toss in your mushrooms, sliced onions and minced garlic. Saute those for a few minutes.
- In a small dish, mix the brown gravy mix with water. Then add the gravy mixture to the pan, plus 1 cup of water.
- Add in Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and granulated garlic.
- Continue stirring as the sauce will begin to thicken.
- Once done, pour the sauce over top of your Salisbury steak (meat patty).

Cooking Tips
Achieving the ideal flavor and texture for your Salisbury steak does require some key techniques. Here are my top tips:
- Always use a mix of ground beef and ground pork for the meat – this gives the best, most tender results.
- Season the meat generously with salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and onion powder before forming into patties. This infuses flavor throughout.
- Chill the formed patties for at least 30 minutes before cooking – this helps them hold their shape better.
- Pan fry the patties over medium-high heat until browned and cooked through, about 4-5 minutes per side.
- Smother each Salisbury steak with savory onion gravy for added moisture and flavor.
How to Serve Your Salisbury Steak in Style
When it comes to serving up the perfect plate of Salisbury steak, the possibilities are endless! This versatile dish pairs so wonderfully with a variety of sides, sauces, and beverages. Here are some of my favorite ways to complement those tasty, beefy patties:
- For the starch, mashed or roasted garlic and herb potatoes are my go-to. Their creamy, garlicky flavor provides the ideal counterpoint to the Salisbury steak. Or, for a crispy option, homemade oven-baked fries or tater tots are a fun, indulgent choice.
- In terms of vegetables, sautéed green beans, carrots, or broccoli add great color and nutrition to balance this protein-packed meal. I love tossing the veggies with a bit of olive oil, salt, pepper and garlic. Roasting some Brussels sprouts or asparagus would also pair nicely.
- When it comes to sauces, ladle on extra savory onion gravy over the top of the steak for added moisture and richness. Or, for a lighter option, serve with a dollop of tangy Greek yogurt or sour cream. Adding an extra punch of flavor, a spoonful of barbecue sauce, chimichurri or pesto works great too.
- For crunch and texture, scatter crispy fried onion strings or crispy fried shallots on top. They provide the perfect finishing touch. Fresh chopped parsley or chives also add nice freshness.
- In terms of beverages, a hearty glass of Cabernet Sauvignon is my favorite pairing with Salisbury steak. The rich red really complements the deep flavors. Or for a more casual vibe, an amber ale or brown ale make great beer choices.
With so many tasty sides and toppings to choose from, feel free to get creative and make each Salisbury steak meal unique! Use these serving suggestions as inspiration to customize the perfect plate.
