FAQs
What kind of potatoes work best?
Smaller potatoes like baby Yukon gold or red potatoes work well, as they cook evenly and get crispy on the outside. Larger potatoes can be cut into 1-inch chunks.
Do I need to pre-cook the potatoes?
No pre-cooking is required. The hot air circulating in the air fryer will cook the potatoes through.
Should I soak the potatoes before air frying?
Soaking the potatoes in hot water for 10 minutes before air frying helps remove excess starch, resulting in crispier potatoes. You can skip this step if you’re short on time.
How long does it take to make Air Fryer Italian Potatoes?
Cooking time is typically 15-20 minutes at 400F, shaking the basket halfway. Thinner or smaller potatoes may cook faster. Cook until fork tender.
How much oil do I need?
Just 1-2 tbsp of olive oil or avocado oil is needed to lightly coat the potatoes before seasoning. The air fryer requires minimal oil.
What seasonings work best?
Italian seasoning blends pair wonderfully with potatoes. Other good options include garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, rosemary, thyme, oregano, chili powder or cajun seasoning. Grated parmesan cheese also adds great flavor.
Should I flip the potatoes during cooking?
Yes, shaking the basket or flipping the potatoes halfway through ensures even browning and cooking.
Can I make a larger batch?
You can, but avoid overcrowding. Cook in batches for crispy results.
How do I know when they’re done?
Potatoes are done when fork tender on the inside and starting to get crispy and browned on the outside.
